Jonathan M. Smith is Interim Assistant Dean for Technology and Access Services at the Sonoma State University Library. He is the lead technologist for the library, where he drives technology development with an eye towards student success. Specialties include: library administration, project management, technology planning and implementation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Jonathan is a 2018 Library Senior Fellow at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. Other recent highlights include a chapter titled “Tried and True Makerspace Tools and Technologies” in Makerspaces in Practice: Successful Models for Implementation, the launch of the SSU Makerspace, and a chapter about Arduino Programming in The Makerspace Librarian’s Sourcebook.

Jonathan is interested in the application of emerging technologies in libraries – from behind-the-scenes implementations that improve services to directly exposing students to the latest technology developments, regardless of their skill set or background.
